Discover Loose-Leaf Tea, One Infusion at a Time

Explore gongfu tea brewing with this white bone china gaiwan—a traditional Chinese lidded bowl used to steep and pour loose-leaf tea. Its clean silhouette and glossy white finish bring understated elegance to your daily tea ritual.

Brew, Pour, and Explore

Tea leaves steep directly in the bowl, giving you control over water temperature and infusion time. Position the lid slightly off-center to create a pouring gap, using it to hold back larger leaves as you decant into a cup or serving pitcher.

Reinfuse the leaves to explore how their aroma and flavor develop throughout your session.

Choose Your Size

  • Small: 70 mL / approximately 2.4 US fl oz below the lid. A compact choice for individual tea tastings. Brimful capacity: 90 mL / approximately 3.0 US fl oz.
  • Large: 90 mL / approximately 3.0 US fl oz below the lid. Choose this size for a little more tea with each infusion. Brimful capacity: 120 mL / approximately 4.1 US fl oz.

These capacities are intended for small pours and repeated infusions. The below-lid measurement is the more useful reference when choosing your size.

Getting Started

Add your loose-leaf tea, then use the water temperature and steeping time recommended for that tea. Adjust the lid to leave a small opening and pour the infusion into your cup or pitcher.

New to gaiwan brewing? Practice holding and pouring with cool water first. The bowl and lid become hot during use.

Simple Care

Empty the leaves after brewing and hand-wash with a soft sponge and mild detergent. Rinse thoroughly and allow the bowl and lid to dry. Avoid abrasive cleaning pads.

Questions before you choose

What do the 70 mL and 90 mL size options mean?

They are the capacities below the lid: 70 mL for Small and 90 mL for Large. Their brimful capacities are 90 mL and 120 mL, respectively.

How can I practice pouring from a gaiwan?

Practice holding and pouring with cool water first. During brewing, leave a small gap under the lid to hold back larger leaves as you pour; the bowl and lid become hot.
